Footwear care

Queremos que tus sandalias, zapatos, botas y zapatillas FitFlop se mantengan impecables. Aquí tienes unas sencillas instrucciones para mantener tus zapatos FitFlop en óptimas condiciones.

General shoe care

How to store shoes

Store your FitFlop shoes away from light, damp areas, or heaters (which can dry out and crack leather, as well as affect adhesives). We suggest avoiding storing shoes in boxes for long periods, especially in humid climates, as lack of air can negatively affect certain shoe materials.

Caring for your FitFlop sandals

Follow these steps, and cleaning your FitFlop sandals should be simple and easy.

FOOTBED/MIDSOLE

Unlined: Many of our sandals have an unlined midsole and footbed; you can see and feel the cushioning layer. In this instance, to clean the footbed, use a damp cloth or a soft toothbrush, wet the midsole, use a little soap, and scrub in circular motions.

Lined: Where your sandal midsole is lined or wrapped, for example, with leather, please follow the care instructions below for the relevant wrap material.

SANDAL UPPER

See below for upper material care.

How to clean the inside of your shoes

Don't know how to keep your FitFlop shoes, sneakers, and boots fresh and odor-free? Try these simple tips:

  • Regularly wipe down shoe insoles with a damp cloth or antibacterial wipe.
  • Wearing breathable cotton socks can help shoes and boots stay odor-free.
  • Sprinkling baking powder or baking soda inside and leaving it overnight can also work (just don't forget to tap it out before putting your shoes on again!).
Rain, rain, go away!

If you're going out in the rain, FitFlop leather or, ideally, rubber footwear is best.

For extra protection, some of our styles, especially those made from less water-resistant materials such as nubuck, suede, and canvas, come with 3M™ Scotchgard™ treatment to repel water.

How to clean according to material

Patent leather care

(For imitation leather patent shoes, please see 'Synthetic Leather Care' below).

To clean FitFlop patent leather shoes, wipe with a soft, damp cloth and a drop of mild soap. A silicone patent leather cleaner will restore the shine.

IF YOUR PATENT SHOES GET WET, stuff them with newspaper and leave them to dry naturally, away from direct heat or sunlight, for at least 24 hours.

Leather care

BEFORE WEARING, spraying your shoes with a water and stain repellent can help minimize stains (please note that any product used may alter the leather's colour).

To clean FitFlop leather shoes or boots, wipe them with a damp cloth before applying polish. Wax polish provides more shine and colour than cream polish. You can also use special leather cleaners or protectors.

If your leather shoes or boots get wet, stuff them with newspaper and allow them to air dry away from direct heat and sunlight for at least 24 hours. Once dry, a neutral-coloured leather conditioner would be beneficial.

Suede care

BEFORE WEARING THEM, spraying your shoes with a water and stain repellent can help minimize any initial stains (be aware this can alter the colour of the suede).

BECAUSE SUEDE IS NOT AS WATER-RESISTANT AS LEATHER, it's best to avoid wearing your suede footwear in heavy rain and keep them away from perfume, hairspray and other products that contain chemicals.

TO CLEAN FitFlop suede shoes, sneakers or boots, we recommend allowing dirt or mud to dry and then gently brushing the upper only with a soft suede brush.

Special suede cleaners/protectors can also be used. Avoid polishes and other products designed for leather.

  • For dirt or marks, try a colourless or white rubber pencil eraser before gently brushing.
  • If you spill anything, blot the wetness with a dry towel (paper towels are fine) and let the shoes air dry. Then restore the suede by brushing it with an old toothbrush or rubbing it with a clean towel.
  • Oil or grease stains can be removed by rubbing a small amount of talcum powder directly onto the stain, leaving it to dry and then brushing it off with an old toothbrush to remove the talcum powder.

Treat stains as soon as possible! The longer they remain on the suede, the higher the likelihood of permanent marks.

Nubuck care

BEFORE WEARING, spraying your shoes with a water and stain repellent can help minimise any initial staining (please note this may alter the colour of the nubuck).

TO CLEAN FitFlop NUBUCK SHOES: because nubuck is buffed leather, and therefore has no protective barrier of its own, we recommend you avoid getting it dirty, as it can be extremely difficult to clean. To maintain nubuck, apply a protective product at least once every six months. If you do happen to get your nubuck shoes dirty, there are specialist cleaners that can help remove dirt and stains, and nubuck brushes that will restore the nap. Avoid products designed for leather.

It is important to avoid getting nubuck shoes wet, as it is a buffed leather, with no protective barrier. If they do get wet, stuff them with newspaper and leave them to air dry, away from direct heat or sunlight, for at least 24 hours.

Sheepskin Care

To clean sheepskin FitFlop boots (e.g. Mukluks), shoes, sneakers or slippers, use a specialist cleaner and conditioner. Some dry cleaners offer sheepskin footwear cleaning services. To restore the plush surface after cleaning or drying, we recommend using a soft shoe brush on exterior surfaces. Brush in a uniform direction.

Avoid products designed for leather.

IF YOUR SHEEPSKIN BOOTS OR SHOES GET WET, stuff them with newspaper and allow them to dry naturally, away from direct heat or sunlight, for at least 24 hours.

Care for synthetic leather (including patent synthetic leather)

TO CLEAN FitFlop synthetic leather shoes, wipe away dirt with a damp, soft cloth.

IF YOUR SYNTHETIC LEATHER SHOES GET WET, wipe off excess water with a cloth.

Care of the canvas/fabric

(For knit fabrics e.g. Überknit™, please see “Knit Fabric Care” below).

BEFORE WEARING, spraying your shoes with a water and stain repellent designed for fabric or canvas footwear can help minimize any initial staining.

TO CLEAN canvas, webbing or other fabric FitFlop shoes, we recommend the following:

  • Brush off any excess dirt with a fine bristled brush (e.g. a toothbrush)
  • Gently scrub your shoes using a clean, damp sponge and mild detergent or dish soap (check it doesn't contain bleach or colour-damaging chemicals). If needed, use a toothbrush for particularly dirty areas. Afterwards, rinse the sponge and wipe any excess soap from the shoes.

If your shoes get wet, blot them with clean, dry towels, then stuff them with hand towels, paper towels or plain white paper. Do not use coloured paper or newspaper as the dyes can bleed onto the fabric. Allow them to air dry away from direct heat or sunlight.

Knit fabric care (e.g., Überknit™)

To clean knitted FitFlop shoes, it is important to be very careful, as this type of material is quite fragile. With cold water and a mild soap, gently rub the dirty areas with a cloth or soft brush. Then, let the shoes air dry.

  • To avoid risk of damage, take your time and do not apply undue pressure.
  • Do not use bleach or detergent.
  • Make sure to use cold water, as warm or hot water can ruin the dye and/or material.
  • Always hand wash and air dry, never use a washing machine or dryer.
Felt Care

It’s important to avoid getting felt shoes wet as their shape can change or shrink. Blot spills immediately and allow shoes to air dry. If they get too wet, blot them dry with clean, dry towels. You can also stuff them with tissue paper or newspaper and allow them to air dry.

TO CLEAN FitFlop felt clogs/shoes: Since felt is a delicate material, we recommend avoiding getting felt shoes dirty as they can be extremely difficult to clean. If they do happen to get dirty, a dry cleaner might be able to help.

  • PLEASE NOTE

The upper (which is the part on top or wrapped around our footwear) can be cleaned and protected with any product designed for use on the specific upper material (polish for leather uppers, nubuck spray for nubuck uppers, suede spray for suede uppers).

As with any leather or suede sandal/shoe, machine washing or drying (or full submersion in water) is not recommended. Not only can the outer material be damaged, but the interior, which often consists of layers of moldable materials, meshes, etc., can warp if soaked.

Please remember that using any cleaner/water repellant/protector can alter the color of leather, suede, nubuck (or other material).

While it is tempting to wear your favorite FitFlop shoes all the time, give them a day off if they are the type that close! This allows them to air out, refresh, and prolongs the life of leather shoes.

  • IMPORTANT NOTE

While we want your favorite FitFlop shoes to stay in perfect condition, these care tips are suggestions only, and we don’t guarantee they’ll restore them to their original condition, or won’t alter them in any way. Some materials are especially difficult to clean, so ultimately the only way to guarantee they stay pristine is to keep them from getting dirty or wet. (Avoid splashing through the rain in non-rubber clothing or jumping in muddy puddles!)
